A Chrome extension that shows how much of an email you typed by hand, and signs it. Works in Gmail. Nothing leaves your browser.

That's a neat idea. I worked for a client who wanted to verify writing was human-generated. There was a way around it, but overall it worked pretty well.

The only real flaw I see is that it could be mimicked very easily. What may be better would be to have the hash be uploaded to a server or use some cloud provider's free tier and serverless functions (within free tier) to verify the transaction hash is correct (e.g., right email sender, time). I wouldn't store the body or title of the email.

thanks! i thought about server version, but decided to keep it fully local for now.

it has ssh-like mechanism of public key + signature generation on first contact, so just mimicking the badge or adding random signature won't work – recepient will see it's not verified signature.

hey hackernews,

i hate getting emails almost fully copy-pasted from LLMs. you cannot do much with it though. but i thought what you can do - is to show your message is real.

so I made this extension called Typed.

it shows how much of the email text you typed and adds a signed proof when you click send.

it's not perfect, i know: you can always write anti-extension to imitate typing or find other hacky way.

but I was using it for a while myself and liked the feeling of a sent email with a signature showing how much of the text was typed.

check it out at https://dobryn.in/typed, would love to hear community feedback.

thanks!
