No mention of how before eveyrthing went digital, the studios couldn't rely on endless patches to fix things after launch. Games had to ship 99% done.
Today, not only do we have early access, which has become common, but even after launch there is always a day 1 patch (very common), and then the studios keep updating as much as they need. This becomes an expectation and changes the entire experience during launch week.
To offset this I usually wait unless it's a game I'm willing to "test", so to speak, because I like it that much. It's sad that I have sometimes wait months, but that's how bad it has become. I appreciate the article's positivity, but this is the primary reason that wasn't mentioned.
