Sometimes other languages have better words to describe what you feel or want to say. I wrote up 10 of my favorites.
First up: Fingerspitzengefühl, German for “fingertip feeling.” In cell biology, it’s glancing at spiky, enlarged cells and knowing they’ve lost their undifferentiated state.
Then there’s gemas, Indonesian for the urge to squeeze something unbearably cute, like a baby.
