how apply for position ? assume you found specific position, where you good match, but how apply on it ? simply press apply on site ?! but, how minimum in my case, this is way to nowhere, checked by years, with no single exception. Yes, it’s geared towards ordinary people—standardized resume formats and the like (though I’ve heard that companies also struggle to find good candidates, but here i don`t know). The problem is that the means (the resume) has supplanted the goal (finding an effective employee) and become an end in itself—and not just any resume, but one following a specific standard format. Those who do not fit into artificially devised selection criteria are immediately weeded out. Even if you have something better than a regular resume, it's not suitable for hr - straight into the trash. In such a situation, the only (highly hypothetical) path is a direct dialogue about the position with someone—ideally not a recruiter, but a tech lead or manager—provided you can offer something exceptional that justifies such an unconventional approach. Yes, this path is far from being for everyone—it is only for those who don’t fit the standard mold and have something to show for it. But such a path needs to exist, too, for those rare individuals. But how do you actually reach out to someone and try to strike up a conversation? (if you don't have contacts within the company) It seems like LinkedIn is practically the only way to try and message someone here. Or are there other options? somebody, as a matter of principle, refused to conform to the system, remained true to themselves, and tried to follow their own path? In my case, LinkedIn is completely out of the question, since my "advanced" account there was blocked over a year ago—and now they strictly block any new, empty accounts, which don't work anyway. In a situation without LinkedIn, it turns out that it’s impossible to even attempt to apply.

Those are general questions; specifically, take the Senior Software Engineer – Windows (Duo) role (ID 2023286: https://careers.cisco.com/global/en/job/2023286/Senior-Software-Engineer-Windows-Duo). Does anyone know how to get in touch—for a real conversation, not via email (which 99%+ of the time just goes into a black hole)—with someone from the "Zero Trust OS Logon & Enterprise Applications team at Cisco Duo" (Windows)?

I am entitled to pursue this path, given my huge knowledge and experience in low-level Windows development, Windows internals, the Win32/NT API, debugging, and research in general—and specifically in credential providers, authentication packages, and the debugging and research associated with them.

the same question, about Senior Software Engineer (Windows) at iProov position ( https://jobs.gohire.io/iproov-fzoa1liw/senior-software-engineer-windows-299390/ )

yes, in both case, even if start conversation, there’s a 99%+ chance I’ll get told to fuck off right away because of my country (which is a practically insurmountable barrier); there are other factors too, but that’s a separate issue.

There's not going to be a shortcut that puts you ahead of everyone else, they're getting 1000(s) of applicants for every position and lots of them have spent years at top-tier tech companies and still struggling to get through the filters and stand out.

That leaves you with lottery-ticket options like working somewhere they acquire, building something they acquire.

For the specific position I mentioned, I don't think there are thousands—or even dozens—of truly good candidates. I’ve outlined my reasons based on general factors (such as my Stack Overflow rating) and specific expertise in the field of credential providers—for instance, I am the only one who has published a list of interfaces like this one: https://github.com/rbmm/StateMachineState/blob/main/ni.h. There are even YouTube examples demonstrating the use of some of those elements (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5SpEfFGE5N8), along with many other things directly relevant to the role. If I were just one of dozens of candidates, I wouldn't be asking this question (I wouldn't have the standing to do so).

I watched a few videos, but I didn't understand them. Do you have a blog?

I'm not sure if it's helpful, but there is an official monthly post for jobs https://news.ycombinator.com/user?id=whoishiring You can take a look at the current last post, but they are read only now. Also, you can post on the correct thread next month on October 1st.
