There is an effectively unlimited supply of people willing to take sums of money to work on anti-human endeavors, so long as they and theirs are not the humans involved.
mitxela5 days ago
Of course. The system rewards you so much if you do, and punishes you if you don't (anti-human is where all the money is). May as well point out that there's an unlimited supply of male grasshoppers willing to get their heads bitten off to have sex.

As long as they think these leopards won’t eat their faces, that is.

To paraphrase a Chinese saying, 'Leopards are bad!'.

But I imagine there should be only a limited supply of people with both the desire and resources to pay large sums of money to get people to work on anti-human endeavors.

How many billionaires does it take to dance on the graves of all humanity? One? Two?

There is not an unlimited supply of unpatriotic people, no.

Patriotic thinking is brainwashing we got very deeply by our society and the source of a lot of violence and problems.

Patriotism, like religion, is used to draw artificial separation between "us" and "them" and initiate violence against "them".

Agreed. Not unlimited, effectively unlimited.

This is wildly off-topic but what does patriotism even mean anymore? What would you say was the last time someone in a position of power sacrificed themselves for the good of the country? vs. sacrificing the country for the good of themselves, which I can assure you was within the last 48 hours?

> Thankfully, the Sauronic array of electronic eyeballs can suppress that kind of rowdiness,

I don't think I've seen this descriptive adjective before, but it is brilliant.

MIT may need to establish an endowed chair for its department of Sauronical Engineering.

If you fail to read the article you might not realize it's being sarcastic.

I fear for our society if anyone with a high school diploma made it past the second paragraph without realizing this was satire.
dgoldstein05 days ago
I realized it was satire but I thought the bedazzling was going to actually cover the camera lens until their picture of it

It took me to read the third paragraph. I'm sorry, don't decapitate me.

The headline alone makes this clear.

You don’t even need to read it, the title of the article implies its satirical nature given it is paraphrasing the subtitle from the film Dr. Strangelove.

Yeah I got to the part 'We do not agree with these annoying colleagues', and thought - is this guy for serious? Then continue to read all the way down and concluded it has to sarcastic.

Universities in many countries have traditionally been the place of political change and even revolution. Always the prime target of intelligence agencies.

From Palestinian flags to ultra conservative incels it's a hotbed of dissent even in tame countries.

mitxela5 days ago
Haven't they already won? If you support Palestine you get expelled now. If the university doesn't expel you it gets defunded now.

They must really love their security cameras to have decided to start decorating them. The bedazzled cameras are lovely to see. My inner 90's child can't wait to apply sparkly plastic rhinestone to their naked exteriors. What's next? Some fake braids and perhaps a troll doll or two?

Also have to commend whoever is in charge of acronyms for this project. I thought I was the most excessive acronym user, but now having read this article, I'm not!

The plastic gems are not that cheap either. (~$20 for a mediysized assortment, that's like 2 coffees!) Best AI article I've read all week.
