As AI accelerates kernel vulnerability discovery and exploitation, the barrier to escaping containers by attacking kernel has fallen so significantly that we must assume attackers can do so at will.
As previously discussed, the gmane.org domain was no longer viable, and the NNTP server has now moved to news.gmane.io. Likewise, mailing list subscriptions have been moved from m.gmane.org to m.gm…

Post-training quantization (PTQ) is widely used to deploy large language models efficiently, but its effect on reasoning models is not well understood. Across math, coding, and science QA, we find that aggressive PTQ…

The Colorado River crisis has been in the headlines this year, but our diminishing border river is in an even more severe state of collapse. This is the story of a water crisis without precedent in American history.
Slow breathing with a prolonged exhale made people more willing to take risks by changing heart activity and increasing the brain’s sensitivity to rewards. The findings suggest that something as simple as controlling…
Anthropic's Claude Opus 5.5 appears to be changing how it writes, with new analysis showing fewer obvious AI writing patterns, shorter sentences, and simpler wording compared with Opus 5.
Fifteen years ago I helped popularise the meta viewport width=device-width,initial-scale=1. Today I found out the second bit is no longer necessary. A retrospective.
PyPI stopped counting requests that were never artifact downloads. Historical counts were inflated, and comparisons across 2026-08-24 will not line up.

Samsung has announced its third-generation Bluetooth tracker, the Galaxy SmartTag 3. It combines a smaller design and improved battery life with a few new tracking and software features, including cross-OS support intended to make it easier to share tracking information with friends and family. As revealed by leaks , the SmartTag 3 has adopted a squircle design, similar to the original SmartTag but with one key difference: There's no cutout for a key ring. That means you'll have to buy one of Samsung's protective cases if you want to directly attach the tracker to keys or a carabiner. It has an IP67 rating for protection from the elements. … Read the full story at The Verge.
Back in the 1930s, scientists noticed that water fleas and rats fed restricted diets while young went on to live longer. The same effect has since turned up in fruit flies and mice. What we did not know was how a meal eaten in infancy could affect health weeks, months, or even years later. A recent Nature study might have found the answer. A team led by Fumiaki Obata, a biologist at the RIKEN Center for Biosystems Dynamics Research in Kobe, Japan, found a protein that carries a record into adulthood of what fruit flies ate as larvae, influencing how long they live. Hungry maggots Lab fruit flies are fed a mix of yeast and sugar, with yeast being their main source of protein. “We decreased only the yeast concentration in the diet, from eight percent to either one or two percent,” Obata explains. This low-protein diet was introduced roughly halfway through the larval period. Once the flies emerged from their pupae as adults, they went back on standard food. Read full article Comments
